Egress, an experimental AR experience designed and developed for iOS, allows one to travel to alternate realities. The experience introduces a world in which there is no distinction between digital and physical; space and confinement; representation and reality.
Egress is an experience that critiques itself. It questions the relationship between people and space when augmented representation becomes our reality. By introducing the viewer to a world in which there are no spatial boundaries and the digital live within the physical, Egress questions what becomes of reality and our relationship with the world when we can no longer distinguish it from the virtual.
There are 4 core themes explored within the experience: the lack of spatial boundaries leads to lack of privacy, control becomes about the aggregate of information rather than confinement, our current reality is already largely composed of virtual experiences, introducing the digital in the physical through augmentation means that we no longer live in a world that is "authentic" but rather only a representation of reality.
Although there are some themes that are implied, Egress emboldens the viewer to examine, question and construct their own narrative through the course of the experience.
