Fear Follows the First in Fate is an experimental book told through illustrations that reflect upon my personal experiences in growing up as the daughter of first generation Chinese immigrant parents. Printed with risograph: Metallic Gold and Scarlet Red ink.
Speaking to themes of pressure and expectation that come internally, through family, and through community, this book does not want to tell a single, linear story. Yet, it aims to create a space in which the reader attempts to understand each situation through their own experiences and interpretation of visual symbols. The book features 3 main pop-ups that function to complete each section by embodying the essence of what has been represented in the pages before.
