Feasting on the Forest

Feasting on the Forest is a pop-up book featuring six different wild and edible plants and fungi commonly found in Ontario. As pop-up books are delicate objects, this book is intended to be read to children by their parents, and encourage them to get outside and appreciate the many offerings that nature has to give.

The book follows a narrative through the seasons, starting with spring, and featuring two plants/fungi each for spring, summer, and fall. It ends with a cozy winter scene, telling the reader to bundle up and wait until the foraging seasons begin again. Each wild edible page contains a small booklet with more information about the plant, specifying how to properly identify it and where to find it. The pages also contain a card with a unique and delicious recipe that details how to use the foraged finds.

Feasting on the Forest provides a whimsical story and elaborate pop-ups to wonder children. Connecting with nature is extremely beneficial to every person’s health, and foraging provides a little extra incentive to go outdoors.
