On Our Own is a Mississauga based design collective. They are built by a group of creatives who strive towards creating conversations about the world we live in today through clothing. Cloth is their canvas.
The main philosophy behind On Our Own is inspired by the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding. The central theme of the book is the conflicting human impulses toward civilization and social organisation—living by rules, peacefully and in harmony—and the will to power. This overarching idea is instilled in the brand as they seek to create designs that make us rethink the way we live in today's society.
The overall of the identity is a mix between grunge and grotesque design. Much of the typography is heavily influenced off of the grotesque/gothic style, while the main imagery is inspired by grunge design.
The main typefaces used in this editorial piece are Garamond Pro and Letter Gothic std. The overall layout of the editorial piece is designed in a way to create balance and unity when viewing a full spread.
