Po—ems is an online poetry database that lets you discover new poems through common words. Words connect us all, and Po—ems uses that very principle to allow users to explore and discover at random the world of poetry.
Po—ems does not have a search function, instead opting to focus on randomization. Once users select a word from the landing page, they'll be presented with a random poem containing that word. Every word in the poems the user encounters is clickable, bringing them to a new poem containing the clicked word. This system is inspired by the way Wikipedia links to other entries through select words, and how users of that website can endlessly bounce from entry to entry, almost to the point of losing track of time. The goal is to promote open-mindedness and spontaneity around the consumption of poetry.
The design of the website is intended to create a peaceful, beautiful, and non-distracting environment in which the user can browse poetry. In order to accommodate those with visual impairments or a preference for dark layouts, a day/night mode toggle was incorporated into the design, so users can easily adjust the site's colour scheme to their liking. Aside from the latter function, Po—ems is devoid of any other features that might distract a user from their serendipitous journey across poems.
