Savage Beauty is a 24-page editorial magazine designed to showcase the late Alexander McQueen’s exhibition, Savage Beauty. The magazine uses the elegant custom type, Mirzot, to contrast against the provocative designs photographed. Copy, font, and styling aims to contrast against the display type and artwork by being irregular; it is kept light to maintain visual balance.
Publication Design
Savage Beauty is purposed as a large coffee table book with beautiful photography and type that exudes sophistication and provocativeness that Alexander McQueen was synonymous with. As the final deliverable for typeface design, the typeface used in Savage Beauty is titled Mirzot, a display serif font which plays with high contrast. The name, Mirzot gains inspiration from Didot, Bodoni and Onyx.
