Skate Like a Girl is a nonprofit organization based in Seattle who's aim is to empower individuals, especially young woman, to become strong, confident leaders. They have amazing programs and events that have gone unrecognized because of their lack of unity and presence as a brand. I have rebranded Skate Like A Girl with a sleek, bold identity that truly speaks for everything they believe in.
The goal was to unify Skate Like A Girl by using a minimal palette with an organic style that created an experience a youthful audience wanted to be a part of. By leaving room for customization and extra colour, Skate Like A Girl encourages individuality and expressiveness. The current brand already used outlines and minimal drawings which could then be easily unified using one or two spot colours, negative space and simple shapes.
Skate Like A Girl relies heavily on sponsorships and now truly benefits from unique merchandise and marketing materials as the skate culture has always thrived off of custom merchandise. These upgrades are helping to spread their message and allow the team to show off their company with pride.
The logo perfectly represents Skate Like A Girl. It’s free flowing, organic shapes resemble the ramps they love to build and skate on as well as winding sidewalks and curved concrete. The two elements represent two skateboards side by side symbolizing friendship and inclusivity. The colours also stand for the involvement of both boys and girls as well as equality amongst the community including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Finally the negative space captures the letters “S” and “G” for the company name.
