This book is a beginner's introduction to the world of curling, filtered through the lens of my own experiences within the sport. It breaks down all the basics of curling with the help of clean illustrations and vintage photography collected from my hometown's curling club.
During my time playing and teaching curling, I noticed how the sport tended to be perceived as very dull by non-players. Many people don't even know what the sport is. The existing literature on curling tends to be very dry from a visual standpoint, so the goal was to create a piece that was much more approachable and visually engaging in the hopes of generating more interest in the sport.
An important part of making this book approachable was injecting colour into the layout. Here, blue and red are chosen to mirror the typical colours of curling rings. Illustrations help to clarify some of the more complex points. The vintage photography would be at odds stylistically with the rest of the book's aesthetic, so a coloured filter was applied to them to make them more playful and render them more of a graphic element than a photo.
