The Identity War is a zine publication themed around queer identity construction. The first issue focuses on poet Robert Duncan's groundbreaking essay "The Homosexual in Society" in which he became the first prominent American to out himself to the general public.
Symbolic imagery is juxtaposed with Duncan's words in an attempt to get the reader to engage deeply with the material. The typographic treatment and off-white colour scheme is meant to give the document a historical connotation. The bright pink is used for emphasis and is symbolic of the gay rights movement.
Duncan's footnotes provide a fascinating look into the context surrounding this essay and are placed throughout, with black die-cut inserts. For a more thorough look at the zine please visit this link: https://cutt.ly/StG6Nol
