The experience of looking through rose-tinted glasses is defined as an optimistic perception of the past, often thinking of it as better than it actually is. Through this project, I explore approaches to share or communicate our memories and emotions for our past to another individual. By understanding the small nuances, and factors that affect how we interpret each others' memories, we can get a better understanding of their current self.
After conducting a 6-month deep dive into the world of nostalgia and memories, I started to explore how I could translate my findings into meaningful and expressive forms. I wanted to create a piece that not only exhibits my research but also brings an understanding of our transmission of memories and nostalgia.
Through Rose Tinted Glasses' provides a virtual reality experience that immerses the viewers into my perceived past, a memory-based recreation of my childhood home.
Using the Oculus Go, which displays both visual and sound, information is transmitted through items found in the surrounding environment. The reflection and relation between the viewer and the items can present further contemplation on how they affected and contributed to my past as well as the viewer's past.
