Intonation is the sound pattern of words and sentences created by the rise and fall of one’s voice when speaking. This project looks into how kinetic typography can be used to visualize the intonation of song lyrics found in Childish Gambino’s track ‘II. Zealots of Stockholm [Free Information]’ from his album Because the Internet.
Zealots of Stockholm is very fast paced, with a lot of audio distortions, phrases overlapping on top of each other and varying vocal shifts. The song works as a great base to explore the expression of intonation through kinetic typography. The video aims to encapsulate the overall feeling of the song, so much like the audio, the accompanying visuals are also heavily distorted and fast paced.
